DC New Frontier Review

I was going to finish up with the Alpha-Lanterns today but I decided to look at the DVD release of New Frontier. I finally got a chance to buy the double disk set with the free Green Lantern Figure. Which is shining proudly on my entertainment center. Anyhow, I have to admit this had to be one of the best damn animated movies released by any comic company. For those who don’t know what New Frontier is about.World War II is over. The Cold War has begun. The Age of the Superhero is in decline. But where are the heroes of tomorrow? From the perspective of those brave individuals who made it happen: encounter Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman, who survived the anti-hero sentiment of the Cold War, as well as eager newcomers like test pilot Hal Jordan and scientist Barry Allen, poised to become the next generation of crime fighters. All leading to the mounting threat of an alien presence on Earth, where dozens of characters from the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s eras of DC Comics team up to defeat it. It’s a retelling of most of the heroes origins such as Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern. I have to also admit how happy I was with them. They pretty much didn’t change the stories, except for a small difference in what leads Abin Sur to come to Earth. Hal Jordan shines as one of the central characters and David Boreanaz was one of the best damn Hal Jordan’s even if this was done in the voice actor sense. They captured perfectly not only the original story but also Hal and Carol Ferris’s love story and how they came to know each other. Props also go to Miguel Ferrer, Neil Patrick Harris, John Heard, Lucy Lawless and Kyle MacLachlan. They captured all the characters incredibly well. I wish they would have been able to fit in more with Green Arrow and Adam Strange but the other super heroes were well done even with the brief appearance of Robin.
If you can get this DVD even on Blu-ray I highly recommend it.
